CELEBRATING 30 YEARS OF MASALA CHAI: A Tribute to My Father
November 14, 2024
A Tribute to My Dad
This year marks 30 years since we introduced our trademarked spiced tea, Masala Chai, to Canada.
Growing up in southern part of India, my siblings and I were blessed with a comfortable life, thanks to our wonderful parents. Sadly, my dad passed away on this day, many years ago, after a battle with cancer.
The memory of him sipping a cup of chai and sharing moments with me still fills me with warmth and joy. My dad was a self-made businessman, starting his career at the age of 14 and never looking back. Known as a kind-hearted and highly successful entrepreneur, he was also one of the best human beings I've ever known. Our evening conversations about his business inspired me deeply and motivated me to follow a similar path.
Shortly after my father's passing, I moved to Canada with my husband. In 1992, to honor my dad's memory and make him proud, I started my own tea business. We introduced our traditional Indian chai at a trade show in Chicago, and it was an instant hit. Since it was blended with warm spices, we named it Masala Chai and filed for a trademark in Canada.
Today, as we celebrate his life and legacy, I reflect on the values my dad instilled in us. When I look at my siblings, I am proud to see each of them embodying his qualities—kind, successful, and always ready to help those in need.
With a cup of Masala Chai in hand, I say: "Love you always, Dad". — Clara
